Been bankin for 4 years now.
Still think I’m slow with my work / understanding the ask.
Feel like I see 1st years walk in and do a quicker job and maybe even understand what the MD wants quicker.
Don’t know if I’ve just getting in my head or that’s really the case.
Cos I’ve worked at 2 banks across 2 countries and never had a review saying I’m slow or had a promotion held back.
FYI - know I’m not cut out for banking.
What worries me is if that’s going to be the case at my next job

Have an internship next summer in a vertical I don’t want to work in and is completely unrelated to where I want to end up. However the firm is strong in PE. To try and break into that side after my internship at the same company, would it be more beneficial to take on a (very small boutique) PE internship or an IB internship this fall?

How much is too much when pushing for a raise? I’ve been in my position a little over 1 year, received top scores in my annual review, kept my team intact, yet I’m paid at the lowest salary band for my level. Manager has said multiple times she would look into a raise for me but nothing has happened. Person before me in this role was earning +$17K than me. How many times do I have to ask?

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. Interesting all the noise about these PPT, my take:

The pandemic took all the upside of an IB analyst life (client meetings in person, fancy trips, suit up, worshiped at networking events) and left all the juniors with the downside (long hours, monkey-like type of job, aggressive work environment).

Not that the complaints are not sort of legitimate but you may need to revise the decision-making process that led you to accept a return offer. Specially if you were looking for less hours.

I’m a financial advisor (Series 7 and 66) and I really wish I would have become an accountant or investment banker. I like advising, but it’s a grind to find people to make new clients to sell to in order to survive. Are there any exit strategies for a successful young 26 y/o advisor to move to investment banking or a salaried advisor job?

Question for more experienced bankers, when did you start to feel comptent at your job? For example, I am 5 months in and am still making small mistakes and getting corrected, feeling like I’m putting in the work and time but still miss things, thoughts on normal progression?
