Don’t trust your coworkers any further than you can throw them.
It's only toxic because the phones in our hands drive everyone insane.

Don't expect to know what you're doing for at least 6 months.

This is nothing more than a job that helps you pay the bills so you can enjoy your life. Your company doesn’t care about you.

Cash rules everything around me.
BBDO used to have a list of qualities they supposedly look for in their people. They double as great advice. Here are the ones I remember.
Be a radiator, not a drain.
Be a hand-raiser not a finger pointer (my favorite but so rare these days)
Pick yourself up fast when you get knocked down.
Be a closer.
Have a healthy paranoia.
Do the right thing.
Seek out different.
Best advice I ever received: never let anyone know how fast you work. :)
Fake it till you make it
Listen deeply to the client. Lead. Create. Iterate.
Never complain, never explain.
It's all about the work.
Nice people. Tough crowd.
I started telling the juniors I worked with long ago to ‘Use advertising before it uses you.’ That was when the biz was only half bad. Currently, I think it might be too late for anyone to get the upper hand.
Dress for the job you want, not the job you have
To be good at your job in this industry, you have to be a well-rounded human. Get out, close your computer, do things to have a well-formed pov and (an opinion) on things.
Be wary of any company that calls its employees “family”
Secrets, secrets are no fun. Secrets, secrets hurt someone.
We’re getting acquired in a month. Quit after. It was a start-up.
Sorry I just meant that was the most memorable advice I ever got
But yes your advice is sage. 👌🏾
Keep receipts.
Learn the job and how you fit into the broader organization before making changes.
New managers: you are there to help your team, not burden them. Be their champion.
Be wary of people who are overly helpful, there’s usually an agenda.
Learn the names of admins, facilities, security, and IT folks. Those are the people who will bail you out when your work “family” leave you in the weeds.
Please and thank you are not optional.
You will make mistakes. Own it and be ready to have a solution ;and, don’t repeat it.
No matter what level you’re at, if you switch companies, you are a newbie to the culture and all the soft skills needed to survive. Don’t keep comparing everything to a previous gig. If it was so much better, why did you leave?
Lastly, do good work, regardless of what it is. It takes less time to do it correctly, than to go back and fix something.
