I am currently an asset management analyst in real estate in Vancouver Canada and I am planning on moving to Los Angeles. What kind of salary should I be expecting?

I'm thinking about starting with a new company. I'm a commercial workers compensation underwriter with almost 3 years of experience. I currently make around 38k but I'm hearing that this is low for the market. Thinking about going to Travlers or Hartford. Anyone have experience there? What was your salary?

Need advice. Currently at $142k base. 3 years and 1 month left before I max out of H1b. Just got my PWD issued through current employer though their immediate reaction is subtly letting me know they’re not in a hurry to start recruitment. Got an offer today for $160k base. Similar role, both are good teams, etc. Do I politely decline and see my GC process through or accept and get more money? Feel like current employer will drag their feet as long as they can for retention purposes.

Baby furniture. What is everyone doing? FTM and trying to figure out if it’s worth investing in very expensive nursery furniture. We were looking at the Natart furniture collection and the Silva collections. These both come in at about $2000-$2400. The furniture is high quality and grows with the child. Alternatively I could go the lower end route at get everything for like $800. Is that wise? I hear horror stories about low quality and paint chipping from the baby teething on the crib.

Do partners sometimes say nice things about your work just to encourage you and less so because the work merits the compliment? Or is my impostor syndrome really messing with my head?

Has anyone here used the "Read Scripture" app? It goes through the entire Bible and includes accompanying summary videos from "The Bible Project" (whose videos can also be found on YouTube). I love how it groups portions of Scripture and the videos are helpful for making meaningful connections with the text. I love these for myself, but they're super kid-friendly, too. I faked my resume I mean my contracting firm did and I didn’t have choice and I got the job. Now my client wants to offer me a full time position. I kind of feel like they trust me with the work I’m doing and also considering my past experiences to offer me a full time and moreover it’s only been 3 months.

AmLaw200 I interviewed with will likely go with a “more experienced candidate”. I’ve got 8 years and its a staff attorney role so whatever. Partner I met with was rushed from the start like he had already made up his mind. Pissed because they knew from the recruiter that I was a “diverse” candidate and they sent me the Mansfield self-identification survey days before they actually requested an interview.

I handleda very difficult and convoluted succession for a black family. My client was astute and intelligent. We got along great. His family was difficult. Willfully ignorant.

Someone on LinkedIn expressed disappointment about the lack of diversity from the big law firms in TX that were posting pics of their summer associates. A managing partner commented that he thought the post might be about a pic he posted (12/14 SAs were white). He tried to defend this by saying that they had LGBT and socioeconomic diversity. The fact that he recognized that his pic might be part of the problem says it all. Law firms need to do better. Sorry, I just wanted to rant.
