Bought a home for a renovation, wasn’t aware of any roof issues. Major rain in my area (Midwest) caused leaks and drywall to fall apart. Is this something insurance would cover?

Did your inspection indicate the expected age of the roof?

Agree. Your responsibility and risk assumed when you buy it as is. You should have budget for that and probably more considering all the inseen or undiscovered issues you will find overtime

Insurance might pay for damage to your belongings in the house but not for the roof or home repair itself unless the damage to the roof was “sudden”. Like if the roof is damaged in a tornado or by hail, insurance will pay for the roof and building repairs.

Welcome to real estate lol

Insurance covered our ice dams and our home was a fixer upper, so the roof in bad shape anyway, they still covered it. And she wrote up even more that was from previous owners time period. She just saw old water stains and put them in the list. Seemed happy to write it up. 🤷‍♀️
You should just call and ask. Don’t start a claim though until you decide it’s worth it.

So I've been at my job for 5+ years as a data analyst/back office support team. I made my way up into making a little over $40k. I've been WFH the past 2 yrs and overtime more than half my team has now been pulled out to work for a diff department which resulted in me taking 90% of our daily tasks to handle. I'm at a point where the salary I'm getting is disrespectfully low for all the work I do. Should I ask for a raise? And if so, how do I go about asking without sounding greedy.

I'm early in my career, managed to save $30K to invest, and want to get my hands dirty with a rental property without too much risk (e.g. no HML/flipping). It sounds like that's a tall order in the NY/CT area given the prices, not to mention whether I'd be able to get a mortgage on anything below $100K, but I figure I'll give it a shot anyway. Any advice on what you might do in my position? Am I being crazy with this idea?
