Can anyone advise what their ballpark startup costs were, how long it took to get “afloat” with clients, and anything you wish you knew before hanging a shingle?

Try to meet w lawyers who can help you as soon as you can.

Startup was around 2,400 or less. No employees. Office share through Regus. My first client took a week and was from a lawyer referral service where they take 15% of your fees. Most came from there. Criminal defense, Family law, personal injury. Talk to other solos and always cover for someone if they ask. One morning, I had a trial that went longer than expected and was literally going to start closing at 9am but I had a small traffic case at the same courthouse at 8:45am. 8:55am rolls around, no judge. Some of the lawyers were talking and I asked if I could go first since I had a trial. Some were hesitant but one, a black lawyer that I know of only on his great reputation said he didn’t mind me going first and even offered to cover for me. I thanked him profusely and he brushed it off like it was no big deal, except it was, especially to me. I asked him how I could thank him and he said to pay it forward. Be that great person. Godspeed!!

$600k. 3 years if you do it correctly before the bigger money comes rolling in.

Hi Fishes, Just wanted to know what is the salary band of associate 2 in Tax profile? Location is either Kolkata or Bangalore or Hyderabad.

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?

Need help building an electric schedule for a production schedule with a Gantt chart style view (sort of)

Currently have an excel list with resource (production line), start date and time, and then also the name of the item being produced.

Any ideas how to tackle this??

I’m thinking a stacked bar chart with the vertical categories to be my resources and horizontal the date/time and then each individual bar to be the name of the item being produced.

I give my cell phone to all clients routinely. However, there are always 1 to 2 clients who abuse this and it seems as soon as their cases are over I find a new one and it is making me rethink. I hate to do this because 98% do not abuse it and I like being connected to my people. Thoughts??

What’s a good LA or NY business litigation firm and salary to expect? I’m a 2yr with quite frankly a lot of experience across civ rights, PI, excessive force, wrongful death, employment defense, K dispute, corp. structure dispute, professional licensure. Write every kind of brief, appeals, argue motions, take depos. Am the only associate working directly under partner on all cases. In house or M&A/Real Estate Transactional are likely the end goal but want to get the litigation out of me first.

I'm a 6th year attorney in NYC. Strictly defense work; started out with the City Law Dept, did a year and a half of med mal/construction, and for past year and a half have been at a well known defense firm working on high exposure construction accident cases. Contemplating taking a couple interviews at plaintiff's firms to see if there is a good fit. Anyone know a Connecticut or 2nd circuit case for this rule? I can’t find one to save my life. A defendant generally is liable for all harmful results that are the normal incidents of and within the increased risk caused by their negligent acts. If a defendant's negligence was a substantial factor in producing the plaintiff's injuries, the element of proximate cause has been satisfied and the defendant would not be relieved from liability for those injuries even though another force concurred..
