I feel like I am very naive and cannot read between the lines, so I can’t tell if someone is trying to fuck me over or not. This leads me to be extremely skeptical of others’ intentions, and makes me less confident that I can influence others, and in general really erodes my self-confidence. Does anyone else constantly get mistaken for a nurse? I get it, I'm 5'4 and Black and work in pediatrics, but the assumption and casual racism is kind of ridiculous when the actual nurse has just told you that the doctor's coming and then I walk in the door. Doesn't really help when I'm one of the only Black on-call physicians. Annoying.
