(1) I live in Ballantyne, which is great for families and has great schools. (2) I live in a new townhome so my place is nice but also cheaper than houses in the area. I’d argue that Ballantyne is cheaper and less congested than a South Park or Myers Park, but lacks some of the character and charm. Ballantyne is the suburbs. (3) I personally don’t get Matthews’ appeal and don’t find it very charming and I also don’t like Pineville for similar reasons. That being said, both places are safe and I know people who greatly enjoy living in those areas. (4) I avoid Huntersville and anything north really because I always run into stupid amounts of traffic at random times. Never fun. (5) there’s also plenty of rumors (and I think non-rumor environmental reports) about Lake Norman’s cancerous water from coal ash.
Hope that helps!
You don’t have to argue that Ballantyne is cheaper than Myers Park. Tear downs in myers park cost a million dollars. In Ballantyne for a million dollars you can get 4,000 square feet in a house built within the last 10 years.
THIS^ - don’t go anywhere directly north east like University area
Concord is a great area and good schools also and decent house prices. Not sure about commute though as my work is remote. The train does not come here but some folks drive to a close by train station, park their car and then take the train to downtown from there.
1. We’ve been looking at Matthews/Indian Trail area and Gastonia/Belmont/Mt. Holly area. For schools and neighborhoods.
2. Anywhere outside Mecklenburg County hah.
3. No comment because I lived in a “high crime” neighborhood in CLT before and had zero problems and it was quiet. Concord is supposedly safe and I hear more stories from friends about that area.
4. In the heart of Huntersville/Cornelius, South Park area or really anywhere in South CLT. I know someone who lives in South CLT 6 miles away in from our office on the outskirts of Uptown and in rush hour traffic it takes them 45min-1hr.
5. Living off the light rail or public transit will be your best bet to reduce carbon footprint. Not really aware of any place that is a known to be an extreme pollution hazard. There are cancer clusters off of Lake Norman but that is outside your 30min of uptown.
#4 is not achievable anywhere lol. I moved to Fort Mill with a family of four and we love it here. Hits all of what you're looking for but is a bit pricey.
Thank you! I am looking at fort mill as well. :)
We used to live in Fort Mill and loved it. Great schools and I always felt very safe there, however the traffic to get to uptown is horrendous, not just during rush hour but especially during rush hour.
You have to give us a budget range if you want anything useful out of this. Based on your post, Eastover is the best neighborhood for you. Currently there is one house for sale in Eastover—$7.15 million. I assume that’s not in your budget, but these days in Charlotte you never know…
Sounds like Fort Mill would be a good fit for you!
Indian land right at the border of ballantyne, so that you have access to ballayante and upcoming Costco!
This depends on how often you’ll be going Uptown but if you like the suburbs, want good prices and safety, Davidson all the way.
Tons of families. Greenways or sidewalks to walk into town, great amenities, playgrounds, really safe.
There are really nice townhomes in the 300s, single family homes are more than that generally but much better priced that Myers Park, Plaza Midwood, etc.
The express lanes are great if you don’t mind spending the money. If you do, then try to avoid rush hour or go in and out where the traffic is the worst (which is what I do).

Hey what about it?
The budget is 300k - 500k. If purchasing a townhouse, I would like to spend between 300-400k and for single family I’ll push it up a bit. This will be a starter home for us as we are coming from a totally different part of the country.
You’re not going to find a single family house or townhome between 300k-500k in ballantyne. If you do, it’ll definitely be something small (2-3 bedroom) and dated.
Your realtor should be able to help you with this. Do you have one yet?
I’m selling my townhouse in Matthews, NC. Located near Weddington Rd. Will list it around 475k. Only 2 years old. I’m going to list it at the end of Feb, if you’re interested
Ey1 do you have a realtor?
OP what did you end up doing?
