I have no clue what happened but have worked at enough customers who refuse to take accountability to assume that it wasn’t 100% Deloitte’s fault. Customer are usually too ambitious and think that consulting firms have a plug and play solution. These implementations are so long that realistically it’s hard to find too many people with more than 2-3 under their belt.
ERP implementation failures are very common. Typically the larger the program, the more it’s undersold to be competitive in terms of pricing. That paired with client teams that never staff themselves properly (I.e. they add the project on top of an already packed daily workload) is just a recipe for disaster. But we still make billions from it so the cycle continues

D4 - Well someone somewhere didn’t make the client follow through and now you are where you are…
It happens everywhere. I’ve been at Accenture for more than 15 years and my very first project when I joined, the MD had an all-hands when it kicked off and showed us past headlines of failed projects that named Accenture as responsible or part of the failed program. He showed it to us as a cautionary tale of how bad things could get if we didn’t do our jobs.
That project was a complete disaster that ran 1.5 years over schedule and our client made the news for issues paying suppliers due to our program. MD was aware enough to know the risk but still wildly undersold the program.
SAP implementations fail with resulting lawsuits all the time. Search for it and you will find dozens of examples.
Wish there was a way to help clients understand that they get what they paid for
Gotta make sure that SOW is air-friggin-tight!
Def wasn’t 100% Deloitte’s fault. Removing any bias, ERP implementations are never straight forward, there’s so many variables. Deloitte and other firms make mistakes…..clients make mistakes……only Deloitte and other implementation partners are held accountable. Even when the client themselves could be negligent.
Happens all the time. Wipro was sued for $35M for a delay erp deployment plus longer than expected close cycle. What is your concern specifically?
