CSM requires you to take a class and a really easy test. It's from Scrum Alliance and is typically more recognized at some companies. The training is usually over 1k. PSM is from Scrum.org, you can take the test for 150 bucks with no mandated training, but the test is harder.
Both are valuable but they split because they have different views on training. Scrum Alliance wanted to mandate training, Scrum.org wanted to focus on testing your knowledge. I have seen more CSMs on more job descriptions, but that is very highly location dependent.
What is more valuable depends on the money you want to spend, your test taking ability and your prior knowledge. CSPO versus CSM are largely similar with a slightly different focus. Do you want to be a SM or PO?
Thanks for the explanation. Ultimately I’d like to transition into being a product manager which is why I was thinking maybe the CSPO but that certification doesn’t seem as common
I’m doing PSM because it’s cheaper AND never expires
That’s a good idea. I’m leaning more towards that one now after doing some more research
Psm I. Not hard and just an exam. Csm requires a costly class.
I think so but get it pre approved. You can't pay yourself and then expense it for some reason.
