So approximately three months ago I accepted a customer service position with a newly “corporate owned company” it was previously locally owned by a local owner. I accepted $15 an hour of the job offer. Previously I worked as a Quality Support Specialist and I am most definitely, as the company is aware, overqualified for my current position. I requested a $3 raise and was denied. That would have essentially bumped my pay up to $18 an hour. Previously, I made $22 in my last job. This job offers

Tips welcome on how to manage my “informal review” with my manager who has it out for me, re: not promoting me following a technical exam (on which I scored perfectly) and interview (on which I was failed ostensibly on subjective criteria). The promotion is a level and pay change, while tasks remain the same. I asked for this meeting. They brought in two external people this week who are the new level and pay above me, but I am training them—for my own job.
Fellow techies, or people in product - what are your opinions about trying to switch jobs for a larger salary? I am underpaid as I work for a small firm but I am happy where I am and there is job security. The economy does not look promising with layoffs and recession symptoms… what would you recommend? Stay or take a new job for significant pay raise?
Currently a manager for an OP clinic. Gave my notice after receiving an offer back in patient care for more money and a better schedule. Spoke to my RVP today who had nothing but positive feedback. He asked for feedback on how to prep the next non-clinical manager as others in the region have been fired or underperformed. Should I be insulted he did not offer me a raise? Wondering if I should use this an opportunity to negotiate or run as I have been feeling undervalued?

Just passed my NYS real estate exam. Which brokerage firm would you recommend working for?
I just joined a brand as a marketing director and I’m coming in at the beginnings of a rebrand. The agency never provided a creative recommendation based on discovery for us to approve, they just started putting together messaging after holding a handful of interviews with our former leadership team. Having been on agency side this seems crazy to me, but I’m unsure how to approach feedback to the agency since I was on the media side, not creative. Any advice?

Did you make a "Resolution" for this year? If so, what was it? I'm working on spending more time with my family, and staying away from tech to the best of my ability on Sundays.
I work a midsize regional firm and, no surprise, we are hemorrhaging staff. And it’s the good ones leaving. Some for family offices and industry positions, which I can understand. But others for smaller accounting firms as staff and seniors which just seems like a career killer to me. I’m convinced we need to do retention bonuses, raises, and recruit new talent by paying above market. Of course I’m a younger partner and don’t have the pull to actually make this happen. Thoughts?
I’m considering joining EY in London. Currently at a boutique consultancy. I joined Fishbowl to try to get a sense ‘from the inside’ of the Big4 as I don’t have close contacts I can ask. I’ve seen a lot of griping in the other channels from more junior staff about comparatively low pay, EY not keeping up, clunky tech, etc. Is that just normal / expected grumbling? Would be really interested in the Partner perspective on this. Feel free to DM if more appropriate. Thanks!

How is the current madness around Omicron affecting your firm? Are you implementing or changing policies to address it? Know this is a touchy subject, just taking a pulse.
What are some key ways you balance stress and not taking it out on others/family? It's something I'm always working on but none of us are perfect. That said, I've made vast improvements. During the winter it's always harder as I feel many of my outlets are limited [like golf etc]
I started a firm with three other colleagues about a year and a half ago. We all came from the same bigger firm and now obviously we are considered a very small. We want to make our first hire and hire someone for around $100,000 as a manager to manage around $200,000 of work. They came back at $120,000. After taxes and benefits that’s $150k to manage and prepare $200k of work. Anyone own a smaller firm who can share opinion? How much work should one manage for that kind of salary?

Any firms that use CCH make sure your invoices are being checked carefully. We just reviewed ours and were over-billed the last 2 years. We were supposed to have discounts and the math wasn’t even correct across for the amount times the discount to the amount billed. The worst part is our rep then gave a bullshit story of how the list price was incorrect on the invoice but the amount billed was correct.
Where are all the accounting professionals going? Competitive pay and benefits aren’t enticing enough. People want work/life balance but how can firms provide that when the workforce supply is so low yet demand is at an all-time high. If technology is the answer are there firms that are successfully implementing solutions?
How does leaving a cpa firm partnership work? I have no next role set up but feel like it might be best to give notice and start the process now. Thanks for any advice.
What do other partners take as unreimbursed partnership expenses? I have heard some say they do nothing (because it isn’t addressed in the partnership agreement) but others say they take quite a bit (if there is an expense policy manual that disallows it). My read of the law is the latter is the correct read.
What's your best advice for someone who wants to make Partner and is early in their career?
2nd year partner at a top 6 accounting firm. Have offer from big 4 for $200K more annually. Don’t really want to take it, but how can I not.? That’s approx a college education annually after tax. Should I try to negotiate or just take the money and jump ship. Feeling Seriously undervalued for what I’m bringing to the firm in terms of people building, sales, book of business. Hate to not be loyal, but $200K is $200K. Advice please
