I wish more states didn't have income tax...
But you can live off of $150k in both NYC and Florida.
I don’t know about wildly different, maybe slightly. I guess it depends what part of Florida you’re talking about. People who make $150k live very well in NYC. You can afford a really nice luxurious apartment. And for Florida, in Miami, Boca, Fort Lauderdale areas you would get pretty much the same nice lifestyle and could afford a nice place on the beach. But wildly different would be if it was Orlando or Jacksonville or Tallahassee. You get more bang for your buck in those Florida cities. But Miami and Manhattan I wouldn’t consider wildly different, aside from the actual city, weather, etc.
Why? This is about salary not cost of living
That’s true Vermont and nyc are totally different. But not all cities and companies are the same. I think it’s still good to know what city someone lives in when they post their salary. It just gives a little better perspective.
There are some cities where cost of living is really high but the average salary is really low. For example, in miami the average salary is like $50k. But i used to make $65k and I could not afford to live by myself. So, if I came on here and posted, I make $65k in miami at xyz company, it gives people better insight. And they may shy away from applying or accepting a job at that company because that salary doesn’t help pay rent for a single person living by themselves. Salary may not correlate with cost of living, but it’s still very helpful to post your city along with your salary.
