One to two things a year.
I’ve heard they make less than some places so I’d guess ~$180k
I know it cost seemingly nothing to give someone a title , but do agencies not realize the ripple effect this creates? It drags down the worth of everyone, making it nearly impossible to justify higher rates. And agency leadership? Utterly devoid of original thought. Their only “strategy” is to lowball, then scramble to recover the difference through incremental spending—a transparent and insulting tactic that only alienates clients. We end up looking like greedy vendors, desperate to squeeze a buck wherever we can. It’s shameful and shortsighted.
It’s also how you run a business. And if you’re a sought after shop you can push lower salaries because people wanna work for you. It’s not right and it’s late stage capitalism, but it’s the reality of the world we live in
People whining about 180k is hilariously elite
If you’re a CD in the Chicago market making 180, good for you. And yes I’ve been doing this for 25 years as a creative before you proletariat me.
I made more than that as a planning director in Chicago before the pandemic. What is up with salaries these days!
Idk how agencies justify cutting salaries. After the pandemic I feel like ad salaries were finally growing. Then agencies (particularly holding companies) were greedy. The problem is people accepted jobs at the lower rates and normalized it.
They were paying lower wages before they became the “it agency”. Remember, smaller shops are always smoke and mirrors.
ok
Really is that the rate for CDs in Chicago? I know senior teams making more than that in SF and NY.
Pro
I’ve heard of ACDs making that much. But those are top ACDs at shops making some of the best work. So no way seniors are making that much
