Companies generally base their salaries on salary surveys which annually provide information reflecting what employees in the same role are being paid globally. They often, then, apply a geographic differential based specifically on where people live. As you climb your career ladder, the role will gain greater scope, impact, and responsibility. For instance, when moving from an individual contributor to a people manager, the salary and bonus are commensurate.
My research says average annual income is $76,934 (single) and $114,000 (one adult + one child).
While I understand it’s a HCOL area - $130k isn’t terrible, but I’m sure you could find other companies paying more.
Right now, there is a war on workers wages - corporate companies know there are laid off, desperate folks who NEED work rather than want a new job, and they need to make their next payment or loose it all.
They are taking advantage of “discounted” labour because someone folks must take the pay cut to stay afloat - they don’t have options. This is why you’re seeing low-ball ranges, it would come down to negotiations at that point and how you’re able to advocate for yourself. But no company pays more than they have to for talent.
