Corporate associates: I’m a specialist associate and the partner I work with is super inefficient and makes us late to get everything back to the corporate team no matter how early I try to get us on track. And of course I’m the one having to send our comments and apologize for being late. How much do you hold that against the specialist associate / do you recognize that it’s usually the partner’s fault (and you should avoid them on future deals, not us)?

I just want to go to sleep. If it gets done, I don't really care.

like

Lol same! I also would like to go to sleep and stop having this partner keep me up for no reason! And feel bad for keeping you guys up. (Coming off a particularly annoying morning if you can’t tell 😂)

like

I’m also in a specialist group and in the same position. I usually message the corporate associates on the side to let them know what’s going on.

likehelpful

Same.

like

I always saw it as us associates against the partner. Never assumed it was because of the associate.

like

Agreed, and you can always send a one-off to the corporate associate to say that you are following up with the partner and trying to get his sign off on your comments asap.

like

I'm a specialist, too, and when partners are late with things they'll generally pipe in ("I'm the holdup" etc.) which I've always assumed was a way of taking any heat off the associates. Bummer that your partner doesn't do this.

like

Honestly, I don’t hold much against specialists. Really, I’m just following up so much because my partner is making me, so if anything it might just piss the partner off (and partner would much more likely to hold it against specialist partner than associate)

like

Who cares? Do the best you can, don't care so much what others think and what they hold against you. The people who are close to you, hopefully, know these things. Everyone else does not matter.

like

Aw man. Maybe I’m an asshole because I never cared. There’s one partner I don’t even wait up for because I know it’s not coming.

like

Don’t wait up. It’s not your problem. Just go to sleep.

like

Just sidebar the corporate associate and let them know it’s with the partner. I’m corporate and that’s what people do to me, and then I tend to chase on the main thread so the partner is prompted to hurry up and review, whilst me and the specialise associate both know that I know it’s the partner’s fault.

like

I assume it’s the partner 100% of the time

I posted this somewhere else before I remembered that I am in this bowl :) so, I changed jobs 6-7 months ago and I am realizing it is not a good fit. I just moved teams within my agency, and had the jarring realization that every single person on the day-to-day business (across account, strategy, and creative, 12+ ppl) is white. I am also white.

I’m getting the chance to hire somebody new for the team. Hopefully you can see where I’m going with this: how do I talk to HR - who clearly does not recognize this is a thing, or doesn’t consider it a problem - about the need to find some POC candidates for this role and in general?

Serious billing question - if during the course of the day, you first receive an email from Client A at say 11:10am and you read it, you then respond to it at 12:20pm. You get another email at 2pm from Client A and respond immediately. The next email comes in at 4pm, you read it and respond only at 4:30pm. None of the email responses take more than 3-5mins.
