Great that you’ve noticed and want to try and affect change within your org. I’d very much start similarly by how you did here, and just say you’d like to make sure you have a diverse pool of candidates to interview. I don’t see why it’d be an issue, and hopefully you find a qualified candidate. Good luck!
Agree with the others as I have typically been the only POC on my team and sometimes in my entire division, it’s important to foster an environment of inclusion. But when it comes to dealing with HR and recruiting, tell them you won’t interview candidates until you are presented with a diverse pool of candidates. Also, share roles with your wider network as a way to source a better pool of candidates.
You might have to be proactive and seek out candidates yourself. You can DM me details on the role (and who applicants should reach out to—preferably you or the recruiter directly) and I can share it privately with my network. You can also look up c0ffe3 on LinkedIn. I’m assuming this is for an account role, otherwise I’d also mention diversecreatives.com (and maybe even throw my own creative hat in the ring, depending on the brand/agency).

And there is a minorities in marketing bowl. It’s possible that people there might know better places to recruit that will be more inclusive of POC.
Agree with the commenters here— ask for a diverse pool of candidates, ask your college or university if there is an alumni network that could help reach POC candidates (to help get the word out beyond just your immediate, likely homogeneous network), I even have asked POC friends who are not in advertising if they would share a job posting with their network. If we want to cast a wider net, we’ve gotta try some different tactics.
