1. There will be far fewer elite travelers next year, as the qualification criteria are back to normal (maybe even higher than precovid?) so perks will increase esp upgrades
2. If you just need the qualifying segments I think you can book a flight w miles
P1- agree with your first point. I feel this might be the case too
Maybe for 1K but I struggle to see how it will be worth it for plat
For 40PP alone, prob worth it. Access to IN class also useful.
Plat has been great to me this year - currently at 65/80~80% CPU rate this year although i only travel non-biz peak hours. Was close to 92% earlier but had to take a few prime time middle seat in econ traveling with friends soo
If it were me, i would def do a mileage run
A round trip to ORD or FLL could close that gap. I'd do it. I dropped from UA Plat to silver and I miss Plat!
Not worth it imo. You already have all the perks from Gold, so you’re really just spending money for a marginally better chance of being upgraded and 40 plus points which wouldn’t be worth $500 in flights + tax to me.
The $ would probably be better spent on a lounge membership than a mileage run. Unless you can find a way to get work to pay for the flights.
Silver -> Gold would be worth it. Platinum -> 1K would be worth it. Not Gold -> Platinum.
