In my experience in these settings, dysfunction is the rule, not the exception. 10+ yrs in both and where I work is actually pretty decent, but these settings lend themselves to dysfunctional teamwork and behaviors for a multitude of reasons, one of which seeming to be the types of people they attract for employment.
Yes. This is extremely common. I’ve been working in addiction treatment for 11 years. It’s not easy to find a strong company to work for.
Omg try Yale psychiatric hospital- by the time I left I swear the patients had my back for safety issues while the staff was too busy complaining that you asked them to show up and do their job- then it was a discrimination issue if you pressed them- done if the sickest systems are healthcare- esp psyc and addiction, a lot of sociopathic behaviors and secrets
I've worked as a medical assistant in mental health/homeless shelter/community center. I honestly experienced toxicity from a Nurse Practitioner who literally acted as if the client can survive w/o their medication then get upset when the client either self harmed, tried to commit suicide, or injured someone else knowing their meds were important. This same nurse practitioner didn't know I was the new MA and casually spoke to another coworker stating: what can a medical assistant do, absolutely nothing, they are completely useless, they can't bill or code, all they can do is take vitals. We need NP not a no nothing MA.... I wrote her a not and said Hi my name is Sable I am your new Medical Assistant, I am not useless and do more than just take vitals, I am BLS CPR and AED certified, w/2 Associates Degrees, and most certainly can bill and code but need permission to do so, I am disgusted by what I heard in your office which I really shouldn't have heard. You call us useless, but everyone knows that when shit hits the fan and you need someone to jump in that's where we jump in. Btw your patient has been sitting out here for 2hrs, I came to tell you since you didn't answer your phone. Signed Sable Johnson MA.AAS.AAA.
Yes. I work for a great company and amazing director that actually care on a personal level. However, the co workers are only there for a check and dont care. They are disrespectful and non compliant. But my director hasnt put her foot down yet. And things wont change until she does. #Learntofirefast #shapeuporshipout
