Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.

Best books on leadership and self development?
Finally found THE one, after over a year of searching and trying out at least 5 different ones!
A nice comfortable office chair.
https://ergochair.co/collections/chairs/products/ergonomics-mesh-chair-w-adjustable-headrest-and-armrest?variant=32511617597491
My criteria: mesh seat and back, arms, headrest
I tried cheap ones from Amazon. Expensive, second hand gaming chairs. Tried HM Aeron (second hand) and while I didn't like the bulk and the general design, I was sold on the mesh seating. I wanted to get the ErgoChair 2 from autonomous, but it doesn't have mesh seat.
AMA.

If you are asked to leave earlier after giving notice, it’s still considered voluntary separation, so you are not “fired”.
Lol no one cares my friend. If you're on the bench then most likely they'd want your out sooner than 2 weeks. If you're an exec and taking clients then they may care. Other than that, we work in one giant grind and churn industry so you're not the first or last to leave
If you're on the bench, they won't let you start a new month on a 2 weeks notice because chargeability metrics and health benefits are rolled on a monthly basis and they're both costly. Example if you put your 2 weeks notice now and you're on the bench, chances are HR will ask you to exit before the 30th. This does not mean you're fired or anything bad, it's still a resignation. It just means the company is looking for its best shareholder interest. If you're not on the bench, your exit date would depend on your value to your current work and knowledge transfer. Again, no one cares that you're going to competition. I'd bet over half of this industry has worked for another competitor at some point. But if you don't feel comfortable, just do you and don't tell people where you're going but that'd look a little paranoid and shady to most people who've been in this industry for a while and have seen folks jump back and forth many times.
I know the difference. I just didn’t know which applied in this circumstance and if this will actually happen.
“You can’t quit, you’re fired!” is different from “thanks for the two weeks notice but you will leave today.” is different from “Thanks for the two weeks notice"
Left P for K as a newer senior. Told relationship partner I was leaving and he was pretty cool with it. Said I was somewhat flexible with separation date. Get a call from HR later saying that since I’m leaving for another big 4 they want me out ASAP and will pay me for almost 3 weeks if I can turn in my laptop and transition work. I was cool with it but I don’t consider them terminating me in that instance
Did you get to say goodbye to your coworkers? Was it bitter? How long did it take?
C1 where do you get this insight? First hand knowledge of people leaving for other firms and seeing them not get fired or taking a guess and talking?

And I’m still not clear on my original question: how likely is it that an immediate departure will occur?
Don't tell them where you are going. That's voluntary information, especially in a right to work state. I was not on the bench, gave 3.5 weeks notice, and no one tried to get me to leave early. It helped that my role on the engagement was set to end in 3 weeks, so I just rolled off as planned.
