Assuming your in AA:
Sobriety is about honesty. honesty with yourself and others. Smoking pot isn’t sober. I’ve tried it. And I was a liar about it.
It’s a mood changer and as with any other mood changers you’re taking for medical reasons, I recommend you share with someone you trust. Sponsor etc. If you’re not being honest about the use, then you’re likely not using it for the right reason.
When I finally started working the steps, I stopped smoking weed. Simply put, I didn’t get sober to be high. That said, early sobriety is a minefield — anxiety, no serotonin, etc. I know a ton of people in the rooms who are prescribed benzos and who are sober. If your problem is booze and crack, like me, the weed isn’t gonna kill you. So long as you’re truly getting sober. As with anything — check your motives first and foremost
Sober four years (from everything) and started smoking cbd stuff a few months ago. Doesn’t feel like a huge deal and hasn’t kicked off cravings for the booze & pills that brought me into the rooms. I have been honest with myself about it. I don’t do it when I’m stressed or have anything else I would have tried to numb out from in the past. I don’t talk to people about it. Drug talk is not welcome with the AA community in my area, and drug use not welcome either. I expect at some point my sobriety/sober self will change and this will be off the table for one reason or another
When I was dry I did the marijuana maintenance. Personally, it didn’t work for me. I wasn’t doing AA really, but either way it didn’t work. If I were to do it now, I’d feel dishonest and dishonesty is the first thing that would bring me out. But, that’s just my experience. If you’re seeing a doctor and using pot for some medical stuff, whatever. That’s between you and the doc. I’d be honest with other AAs though just to see their experiences
It sounds like you both have some experience with that. After you guys got honest about smoking, did either of you restart your recovery time/day count?
I restarted my day count. The only was to stop was to be honest and accountable to others and for myself.
Weed will take me elsewhere.
