Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

Should I apply for roles outside the company?

Have you checked your current salary against industry standards?

Just curious- is this Meta?

Thanks for the suggestion. I was pretty shook to learn that my salary was going to decrease going from Seattle to SoCal. Good luck with your search!

Wait...they are decreasing your salary? Was that some sort of exchange for being allowed to work remotely?

It feels that way but the justification was that the cost of labor in California is lower for my role without considering the cost of living.

Also I am open to discussing partners, marketers, and investors even though I have nothing extraordinary to offer right now. But I have a really good brand, story, and grit to make it big with the right help.

Any thoughts on the best certifications to get in order to help move forward? I have considered the CCP from World at Work, but it’s fairly pricey to get by the time you wrap up everything. I was looking at both SHRM-CP and SPHR. Everyone that I have spoken to has the SHRM, but that’s also only looking at individuals in a small geographic footprint and within 3-4 different companies. I was hoping to get some thoughts on this from others? Thanks
