Do we think consulting is a farce or do we stand behind our trade?

I mean it’s easy to cherry pick bad examples and certainly some people/firms have made clearly terrible decisions but on a whole I do think we add value to clients.

Good to see senior leaders truly believe that. Don’t you think our jobs could very well be done by our clients themselves?

Of the billable hour professional services we probably are the farciest.

Yes, and I also meant MBBs farcier (that a word?) than Big4 and so on

I think consulting definitely has its place, but like any industry, it depends on the approach. When done right, it adds value by offering expertise, fresh perspectives, and strategic direction. But I get why some might see it as overhyped if it lacks tangible outcomes.

That’s a solid point. Consulting does attract the best.

It really depends, I don’t think many business strategies are worth the price tag, but the actual implementations may be worth it.

Yes, tech will always be/have the appearance of being tangible

How do I deal with a parent who has become bitter and shrewd as they age? It’s exhausting and disheartening to be around because they used to be positive and happy. I’d like to help them be positive again but also want to give them space to feel how they feel. I just want them old version of my parent back 😞

Our company of 110 EEs has separate providers for payroll and HRIS, not happy with either products. I’m gathering data to make a pitch to move everything into an all-in-one HRIS + payroll.

Does it make any difference to make the change effective the first week of 2023 payroll, or to make a change in payroll providers mid year? I’m thinking it’s best to start fresh at the beginning of the year and not worry about two payroll companies for reporting. What are other things to consider?

Follow up post to my last post…My husband was laid off from the company where I also work. I am feeling really isolated / depressed about working and moving forward. I’m also getting to a stage where I’m really sad that people haven’t reached out to either my husband or myself to send well wishes or provide support. It’s like they don’t know what to say or I make them feel awkward so they don’t bother…I’m trying to focus on a few that have been supportive but it’s hard…Any words of advice? 😞

Anyone know of a good building for a 1bed/1bath. Need to have parking & a/c. Nice to haves is in-unit laundry, any include utilities, any amenities. Trying to keep it on the cheaper end with a max rent of 1,500, but given our line of work I can bump that up if the place is nice enough to justify the cost. Thanks in advance!

What's a good place to live to access both downtown and Argonne national lab in Lemont?
