Do you feel like a minority within your race? I’m a U.S. citizen who’s parents are from South America and are of South Asian and Chinese descent, but I look like a mestizo Latina. I keep hearing how people stick up for their race and mentor, network, and help them obtain positions, but I’m always treated in life like an outsider b/c I don’t “look” Asian and am not from the mainland. How do you navigate this? I feel like I’m a disappointment even though it’s not my fault

So my fiancée and I are relatively late in terms of finally landing well paying jobs and being able to save money instead of living paycheck to paycheck. We’re both 36 and currently rent a 2 bedroom in NY and have a combined savings of $35,000 which she wants to use as a down payment on a condo. I kinda just wanna continue saving while renting. I also literally just started contributing to my 401K so I’m also late in the game for that too.

My dad who lives in Asia just announced that he had a medical issue. I’m starting to enter the age where I’m going to take care of him financially. It’s a $2,000 hospital bill which in the US is nothing compared to what it represents there (which he can’t afford). He’s going to be fine! Just wanted to share with this group as many of you can understand what it feels like to support your parents when they’re old, not the other way around. I feel so blessed I can help him. 🙏🏽
