Simple answer: no.
Complex answer, in a world since Covid where everything has gone up in price and my wage hasn’t kept up with that I gotta do other things to hold on to the buying power that once was with just a job.

Do you live in a HCOL area?

I don’t know that I am ever going to make enough money to the point where I don’t think about making extra money in my free time.

Are you doing anything currently to make money in your free time?

Well, I have multiple teenagers, so the answer is no.

Last year, some career changes were made. In the long run, it will be good, but the unexpected changes came with some surprises meaning money became a lot tighter. A lot of "real" conversations about money have included our kids.

Yes

What do you hate about BigLaw?
I actually love it. I was a paralegal in BL during law school. Maybe I am use to the environment? What am I missing? Help me remove the rose colored glasses. The cases are interesting, pay is fantastic, offices are beautiful, and the research resources are a big reason why I never want to leave. Sure there are partners/senior associates that don’t respect you or your time. That happens everywhere and would mean you need to move firms or sections. What am I missing?

I have an offer to do some consulting for a company based out of the UK (I am in the US). The job would not go through a consulting company but would be directly with the company. I have not done any consulting before so I am not sure how it works, what I would need to set up (they mentioned that I would start a LLC and bill them directly, no idea how to do that), how to determine the tax implications of this, or what hourly rate I would expect. Can anyone offer advice?

How does a sole engineer at a company go about getting management to actually care how production machines run? I’m the only mechanical engineer at my company dealing with a half dozen cranky production managers who think that I can “work my magic” on a machine.
