This type of behavior on the part of the bosses is common, I went through a similar company in my beginnings and they only paid attention to the machines when we were facing a total stop of production, I tried in several ways to encourage more and better maintenance but it was impossible because they did not want to stop the production.
You can explain to him briefly what worries you about the machine with something that will attract his attention, so he will be interested in listening to all your arguments.
Some managers are so careless, they don't want to take responsibility for the disasters caused by their negligence.
I would recommend that you send emails and memos to all involved, it may be that when the worst happens, which is sure to happen, they will want to say it is your fault for not speaking up. The only way I see them paying attention to their machines is when they are not working.
I will insist on a meeting every first day at the first hour of the week to show how is the state of the machines and what can happen in the future, it would be something similar to the safety meetings but in this case, is maintenance.
The best way would be to show how the production line behaves when it is running and what happens to production when you have to make repairs to a machine. The production is 0, and if you don't take care and do better maintenance management the production will remain at 0 for long periods of time.
