I do general transactional work but really want to get into healthcare. How can I make this happen?

Agreed with C1. Healthcare transactional should be an easy jump. Learning the regulatory bugaboos will be a challenge. Join AHLA and local orgs; take CLEs; convince people you know what you’re talking about (e.g., spell HIPAA correctly)

like

Agreed. The AHLA Fundamentals of Healthcare Law conference in November is a great place to start. Went to that 11 years ago and still have the materials—many of which are dated now as things change so much, but they were an incredible resource in my first few years of practice.

Yes you can - we are busy! Most of my work is on health care M&A transactions. It helps that you already have a transactional background, but you also need a good grasp of the health care specific issues because the regulatory landscape is complex: corporate practice of medicine (and how it affects transaction structure), nuances of the friendly PC model, Stark and Anti-Kickback considerations (esp with physician compensation and lease arrangements), licensure and change of ownership issues (also how that affects transaction timing - can force the parties to do a bifurcated sign and close due to the need for pre-closing regulatory approvals), and HIPAA and compliance programs. Also watch out for audits and overpayments. Not sure if M&A is what you had in mind but happy to answer more questions if you have them!

So i have been fortunate that i have managed to go through my career without the need for a degree. I was lucky enough to have been hired by one of the worlds top consulting firms, worked with a whole lot of big clients and travelled a lot. It's gotten to the point where I am not even asked about the lack of a degree on my resume. Personally though, it bothers me. I have a whole bunch of certifications in my industry…but just no formal degree. (cont'd)

Hello Guys,

I am in a super good position at Jellyfish as a Director with a good room in terms of growth. Great responsibilities, work life balance and I strongly love my job. However, there is an opportunity to join Google Dublin as an Agency Development Manager (level 4) with strong salary, new challenges, different role and responsibilities etc. I HAVE A STRONG DOUBT about a trade off: is better to have a strong margin of growth and a good position or join Google with the above conditions?
