Do you prefer virtual or in person depositions? Or does it depend on the case?

In theory, in person is better. In practice, I prefer virtual. I got too used to having my outline pulled right up next to the deponent’s face, pulling up any random document to check on it, answering rogue emails that come in, etc.

Usually case by case basis….. I generally prefer in person so I can get a better read on the person….. if it’s a case where i think it might go to a jury especially cuz I want to try and gauge how a jury would perceive the person….. however if it’s a case I’m not primary in or not a deposition of a person who’s important to my case I don’t care if it’s in person or not and I don’t always pay the best attention when it’s not.

Virtual for sure. Save us all the trouble of being in the same room together, please.

Additional Posts in Insurance Litigation

I work in insurance. I was working for an Allstate agent and was fired the day after my grandmothers funeral for being “unenthusiastic in our morning meeting”. Now I’m having anxiety searching for a job. I don’t think I want to sell anymore yet every single recruiter I interview with says I should, that I have a “salesperson mentality”. I’m burnt out. Has anyone else felt this way? How did handle it? Is there a different career path I can take or am I destined to sell insurance forever?

What are you considering when assigning cases to firms in the defense panel. I’m a 2nd year associate at a national ID firm (~300 attorneys) and want to create rapport with claim managers I’m currently working with. Any advice?

Alternatively, is there something that will cause you not to assign cases to particular firm?

My firm typically does insurance defense, but we take plaintiffs cases here and there. Is it typical that work done by associates on contingency cases isn’t counted toward their billable hour requirements unless and until we receive our fee on the case? This is my first experience with this, but it’s hard for me to reach my hours as is, without spending time on non billable cases like this with no assurance that I’ll see billable credit at the end.
