Do you think firm loyalty is ever really rewarded? I’ve been at my firm for 7 years, put in the hours, mentored juniors, and stayed through rough patches—only to watch a lateral swoop in and get the promotion I’d been waiting for. I’m starting to wonder if firms even value loyalty, or if we’re all just temps until we stop being profitable.

I don’t think loyalty is rewarded anymore, honestly. I was pushed out of my firm after more than a decade there and a promotion, betrayed and gaslit by my closest mentors.

Part of the issue is that partnership units and shares are so valuable that promotion is more difficult than it used to be. Many long time, legacy partners would not be promoted if they were coming up today. They’re basically grandfathered in. Goalposts for promotion keep getting moved.

Another issue is that people are just more selfish now. This accelerated after COVID. Most people are bastard-coated bastards with bastard filling. They put themselves first when times get rough, no matter who it affects or how it affects them. Your loyalty doesn’t matter if someone is concerned about their own promotion or losing their own job.

I think the best approach nowadays is to do things because you want to and find them interesting or fulfilling, not because of the possibility of promotion. And if you aren’t receiving the recognition you deserve for your efforts, vote with your feet and go somewhere else.

Have an offer from a dream company but I'll need to go in at a lower level. Knowing that I can bring a lot of value to the company (read- I know my worth), I negotiated with the hiring manager to have a level/comp review 6 months after employment. If I hit all my goals (ie, prove myself) within that time frame, I'll get a promotion and salary adjustment.
QUESTIONS:
Should this be in writing in the offer letter?
How detailed should it be? I assume I won't know what goals to set till I start...

I’m in interviews with a few companies. It was initially to see what was out there to negotiate my pay. Now, I’m seriously considering leaving my current company because of what one of the prospect companies represent: everything I want in a company/role. (Plus they reached out to me) AND they will pay me almost double what I’m currently making annually, put me in a position to advance (so many options!!!!!) and allow me to move/travel when I get ready to.

What should I do? Guidance please!!!

My job application status says shortlisted in Mindtree Portal after 3 round of technical interviews. The recruiter told me he will send an invite for the HR round (10-15 days back) But i am yet to receive any information from them.

Can someone from #Mindtree help me understand what process they follow for recruitment?

Are there many legitimate ethical hurdles when switching from insurance defense to plaintiff’s work? I’ve always seen myself as a plaintiff’s lawyer, but ultimately took an ID job out of law school (better salary, no real opportunities at plaintiffs firms that I liked). I like what I do—so far—but I’m constantly thinking about whether the grass is greener.

Currently interviewing at JPMorgan in their CIB division for a associate operations role. Have met with 5 people for two different teams and another person for another team, all of which I believe are 3 total open positions for 3 different teams. Any insight on the interview process or how long it takes or any sort of idea to give me on what I could look for that might help me believe I might get an offer? Checked my online application again recently and still says “In Consideration”

Transactional junior associate in biglaw. Working for a dedicated practice group rather than in an associate pool. For the past few months, I’ve been loaned to another practice group for a good chunk of time. While the people are decent and the hours aren’t terrible, I detest the work and don’t see a future in this new practice. My main partner says it should end in the next month, but I don’t expect that to happen. Is it a terrible idea to ask to be taken off?
