I started my career as a civil local government attorney that could be something you could look into since you probably already know all the people. Get a year or so of that experience and you have a bunch of trial work and show that you can do some civil stuff that's a competitive commodity
Thank you!
Easiest transition from PD is plaintiff’s personal injury. We’re like brothers from another mother fighting the good fight.
Lots of trials not a lot of paperwork 😂
I used to be a public defender! I’d be glad to help. What areas of law are you interested in? I switched to civil. Litigation is litigation so if you want to stick to litigation then highlight your litigation experience and minimize the area of law. I’ve learned that legal skills are transferable. Try copying and pasting the job description of the job that you want onto your resume, then use your experiences to make it your own
Thank you both for those tips! I thought litigation in civil world would be easiest transition. I have no transactional experience. Coming out of law school I was interested in employment and IP. I’m at the beginning of my search so thanks again!
Where are you practicing?
There a lot of great policy orgs that value hiring ex-public defenders.
I know you said you don't want to do criminal, but I'm assuming you just mean trial level.
