This has been proven true by academic research. Pretty people get paid more.
Playing devil's advocate, I could see how physical appearance impacts someone's self-confidence, whether they are outspoken or likely to advocate for themselves. In that regard, it will absolutely hurt their negotiating.
I see what you mean. Seems companies are opening incredibly low now. Whether appearance played a role or not wouldn’t surprise me.
Not far-fetched. Yeah, bias isn't supposed to factor in at all, but it does. If the HM noticed this person's passive demeanor, it's reasonable to assume that played a role in the offer they extended.
Honestly, depending on the front facing roll, it can be company wants. People that may not be as physically attractive as some other people may not be able to complete some. service.
People will use any excuse to cause drama. And yes, probably.
Yes it plays a factor
Unfortunately, yes it does
No, that person did not ask for a fair salary to meet the expected responsibilities or job scope. If you don't ask for compensation expection and get to the third tier (example only) of the interview process, they have the offer letter all written up, and you say.. so, how much am I getting paid.. and they say.. e.g. 10K less than you were THINKING.. who is MORE at fault? You or them? You are.. you need to put the expected compensation on the 2nd interview.. Your expected salary and be prepared to walk away.
I believe so. And single women, wear a wedding ring!
Do you think this bias applies to single men vs married men, in this scenario, what’s your viewpoint
I wouldn't say far-fetched. There usually is a certain type that companies look for. Personality has a lot to do with it.
from what I have heard, I think it at least does affect the interview process.. salary negotiations themselves I am unsure of
Are you saying the person was unattractive or had a passive demeanor? Or both?
Gotcha. Yeah, I definitely think this matters.
Yes
