Not sure where you’re getting a sub 45 min commute that isn’t a path train in tbh
I know someone who takes the ferry from Weekawken and loves it.
It’s me. This is the way.
I commute to Rockefeller from morris county. Do not move to morris county. NJT trains are terrible. Train station parking is terrible. The trek from Penn station to Rockefeller center adds about 20 minutes to your commute. Outside of Hoboken/JC, 45 minutes may be difficult—an hour is more doable. I would recommend south orange or maplewood if you want to buy a suburban house. Short hills and millburn is about an hour (depending on how far away from the station you live). Could also do Springfield near route 22 and take the bus to port authority. If you want an apartment, there are many cropping up along the train station lines that are convenient in south orange, orange, union, but harder if you want a suburban house.
Uh 45 minutes is totally doable. SA1 must not live in NY/NJ. If you move to anywhere close to Exchange Place, Grove street, Newport, Hoboken, or Journal Square PATH stations, you can take the PATH to World Trade and transfer to many lines (R, W, 1) that will take you to Rock Center. Will take just under 45 minutes.
If you move to West New York (new neighborhood in New Jersey) the commute is like 20 mins by bus.
Bus from 55 Riverwalk (common building in west NY) is 17 minutes to 42nd street, then the train to Rock Center is the next train stop (2 min ride).

I’m deep into Bergen County, and the commute takes me a little over an hour door to door without traffic. My guess is that the commute is quite a bit shorter from Fort Lee/Englewood.
Try Harrison maybe?
I work near Rock Center and live in JC Heights. On a very good day, I can get to work in 45 minutes using the Park and Ride or taking the bus directly after a 15 minute walk, but most days its closer to 50ish minutes or an hour.
