I am that coworker…..but it really is easier to just talk quickly on the phone rather than email/slack back and forth. (Although I am not that person who turns a “can you talk real quick” into an hour long call)
If you have three emails or three slack messages about something and it isn’t resolved/ no clarity, it should be a phone call.
I worked with someone like this. I don’t have kids. She does. She’d log off at 2:30 to go do kid stuff and then log back on at 7 PM expecting me to still be online (I was) and then be like “hey just let me call you for five minutes” and the call would end at 10PM.
I don’t work there anymore.
I fricking hate this and I think it's a communication difference. I learn by writing and reading, while others learn by talking and listening. It's not actually easier for everyone to just hop on a call.
I think it depends. Sometimes you can clarify things with a quick conversation versus back-and-forth of emails and texting. Somethings get lost in the back-and-forth and sometimes just a quick verbal can clarify everything. Plus, sometimes you can pick up a tone in the exchanges that could come off the wrong way.only bothers me with people who want to talk endlessly. I just want to get to the point.
