Does anyone elses calendar get treated like it is always flexible? I get pulled into last minute manager calls several times a week because issues are urgent by default. That availability has become assumed. How do you protect your time in a practice built around emergencies?

Set boundaries. Don’t immediately volunteer and drop what you are doing. But do offer when you can get on those calls. If you don’t will be perpetually behind and in fire drill mode. Further, I would encourage talking to the manager (if it’s the client) to change their mindset to reach out to counsel before something is on fire - be more proactive than reactive. That is easier said than done and can take time to cultivate. But I would caution, some clients just won’t adopt that mindset.

Also I would encourage you to block your outlook for when you are doing things (writing something, research) to show people who may be looking that you are busy. Just because you are double booked does not mean you aren’t busy and don’t have stuff to do.

“I’m unavailable at that time.”

I’m having a hard time understanding the salary /TC ranges for mid- to senior-level strategy positions in the Denver area (10-15 YOE). They seem to vary a lot, and are broadly low vs. other markets (mid $100k-low $200k vs TC closer to $300-$400k+ on the coasts). Any observations? Which companies would you look at for more substantial comp outside consulting?

Hi Fishes, Y.O.E 7.5+ years. Tata Consultancy TCS is offering 25LPA including variable pay and everything. So just 15% increment on my current salary since they mentioned I am leaving my current organization within 1 year.

They mentioned 8-12% is VP plus 80k from that salary is paid at the end of each year. Is it a good enough salary for 7.5+ yoe candidate. Also any heads up for the things I should look out for will be really helpful.

Case load= malpractice? Small plaintiff’s firm of 25 attorneys. I was a 2 year associate hired and given 50 active files in pre litigation status. 9 mos later a partner quit and I inherited 45 more. I got up to 105 files. Now I hover at 85 active files in varying stages of pre lit. I asked managing partner for help and was told to settle more claims to lessen my load. Is this what people consider negative work culture?

What is considered a “large” caseload in employment litigation? I work at a large L&E boutique law firm and handling about 14-15 active litigation cases in state/federal court or arbitration. Some of these matters are multi-plaintiff and multi-defendant cases, but none are class actions. This does not include any matters I am handling in the charge stage or in pre-litigation. Not sure if that’s a typical caseload or not?
