Do you have any programming experience? I started my career as a CPA and it was about a 10 year transition to data science. 1st I’m not sure I’d try to make the leap directly if you have no data background, might want to learn something like power bi or tableau first. Second, there are good courses on Udemy for data science, look at a guy named Jose Portillo, his stuff is solid, he’s got some data science and python boot camps. AI is all the rage right now, I speak of that separate from data science as it’s kind of its own animal. The other piece of advice is try to find an intersection between what you already know and the data area you focus on.

Honestly, in my opinion the best way to break into an entirely new field like that is to find an organization or non-profit you like, get connected with people there, and offer to build them something for free. Spend a few weeks or a month or two and build something basic but useful with their data in your spare time. That kind of real work experience will build your resume 5x as well as any course and probably better than a master’s degree.

Would like some opinions about how likely it is to make product analytics self serve by PMs? Anybody have success here? Or is it hopeless to think that product managers can pull their own data, look at their own dashboards, and do basic data tasks themselves?
