As someone who has worked as an extension to some of these family offices, I’ve heard amazing things about culture and opportunity to grow. They’re always looking for smart people and not necessarily a “yes person” but someone who their own ideas to drive the firm forward.
If it progresses there would be several rounds of interviews, a personality test, etc. The family members themselves are typically removed from management of the family office itself but do have ultimate say in regards to financial, structure and corporate matters. They’re typically very kind and friendly people who enjoy sharing their privilege with those around them (including their employees).
Thanks so much! This is helpful! The recruiter definitely made it seem like the culture would be great, so glad to hear that’s actually true sometimes.
Are you going to work as an insider / employee to them or are you going to be at a firm who counts them as clients?
As an insider/employee
I’m curious how you got a chance to interview with them via what seems like little to connection to the families. I would have thought they want someone they can “trust” to do dirty work and “fix” things versus someone outside their circle they can’t vet.
A recruiter reached out. I agree with you though that it was somewhat surprising. I wouldn’t be surprised if they hired someone they already know over me, but I won’t turn down the chance to interview!
I definitely wouldn’t be their only tax advisor though. Maybe I just matched what the person I’d report to was looking for.
