Does anyone have experience networking to earn a place on Congressional committee staff following a couple years in health care policy consulting or a similar path? Would love to connect and learn more about your story, any recommendations you have as I approach a similar timeline.

Committee staff is usually the toughest to crack. Chairs and ranking members tend to move folks from their office in (or hire people they know already) so your best bet is to network with senior staff for the senior members of relevant committees.

Not personally, I don’t want to work for the govt, but I would start out in a federal agency related to your committee of interest while getting close to congressional staff and sharing with those new friends your dream to work there. OR start out as state level legislative staff and regularly apply to federal positions. Look for mentors in the space—ask them everything and ask for internships

I'm currently completing a tax LLM (as a foreign trained lawyer) but considering pursuing a JD. I'd like to do it part-time while working. Which firm/service line gives me the best chance to do both? Also, is part-time Big4 work even a thing?

I’ve been working in public accounting (audit) for a year and I don’t enjoy the work and don’t see myself in this position for much longer. I’ve been thinking about going into marketing but stuck on how to get started. I know I have no prior experience, but since I’m early in my career and with taking some courses/certifications (Google analytics, SEO, etc.) to boost my resume, I’m hoping to make the switch. Any advice on where to start, what type of marketing positions I would align with, etc?

The station I work at is down at least 15 positions. Some jobs have been open for two years.

The remaining staff is required to step up.

Additional positions are opening up as contracts are either broken or expire.

How are people able to keep their mental health up when their station isn’t hiring people they need and refuse to pay living wages to potential prospects or promote those remaining?

Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

Should I apply for roles outside the company?

My firm’s IT (especially system saving and file locating function) is so bad 😐😞 and they keep doing updates no one asked them for just to mess with the stuff we already got a hang of without doing anything about the issues we actually need fixed. Anyone else in a similar boat? Do you bill the client for the time it takes to fix the IT issue (or IT inefficiency generally, like time taken to find a file in a convoluted system)? Or is that supposed to be our non-billable time?
