Read this as Dignitas at first... you’d have to have a bad day at work for that to be a consideration!
Slalom1, why?
Publicis is HORRIBLE to work for. I’d stay far, far away
Worked for Razorfish. Which is now SapientRazorfish. Which will soon be just Sapient. Was in a Director role. Left after some particularly poor decisions were handed down. Have been offered the opportunity to return several times. Said no.
Just say no to Publicis Groupe companies
Did Publicis already sink their teeth in too far? I has always heard good things in the past about Digitas
Small sample size of one, but surprisingly tough to penetrate. I did applications, hit up a few of their recruiters for phone chats, so forth.. wasn’t able to even get an interview. Wonder if they’re not too interested in consultants, or it’s just me
Slalom and DD, Can you expand on why publicis companies are a no go?
@OP, what role at Digitas?
Profit over people in every way.
What's parts did you work for?
I'm at Sapient and we are starting to feel the pinch somewhat, but always appreciate viewpoints of those who have been here before (although it's a holding company so it's not unexpected).
@OP, Digitas has been moved under Publicis Media, so if you're interested in that side of Digital/Marketing , I think it's worth exploring. If you're more interested in larger scale strategic digital consulting, I would say come to Sapient.
As for working with Publicis...its a holding company so there's been a lot of cost-cutting, given challenges in the ad industry. But that's true of many firms now.
@SC1 Was offered a Manager, BA role. Not sure exactly how that aligns with the corporate structure at Big 4 firms. Would this be more equivalent to SC or M level?
Probably manager-equivalent? You're expected to have supervisees, and you're expected to own a track of work.
If it's a smaller project, you may end up running or leading the overall workstream.
Location might help me give you more specifics as well.
@Slalom, maybe comparing and contrasting the mindset/approach at Slalom vs a Digital Agency like Razorfish and Digitas would be helpful to @OP.
I for one have seen some huge cultural challenges in how agency folks view the client (impediment to great work) vs how consulting-minded folks view them (clients come first).
^ Absolutely true. The 'slip good work by the client' and 'do good work DESPITE the client' culture is trash in our contemporary space. After spending 15 years ascending the agency world, writing super bowl spots and designing Fortune 500 logos, I finally realized the great swindle of the creative agency world: creativity and ethics aren't really the focus, utilization and Billings are. This adversarial positioning is the very cause of their tortured malaise. It's a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Consulting as a whole is a lot more collaborative and sticky. Slalom is a whole other world, tho. Our approach and whole philosophy is about a mile to the left of everyone else.
