Your initial post could be misconstrued - as you said “straight out of grad school” and then you mentioned you work full time later.
To put a finer point on things others have said, your masters means little in consulting for cyber security. I also have a master in cyber security, and I perform a lot of hiring for those in the field.
Unless your work experience is in cyber sec, your starting salary will be between 70-85.
Sorry to disappoint.
When I onboarded for that title, everyone in the major cities got $75k (SF, NY, Chicago, etc). 2nd tier cities got $72.5k (Seattle, Phoenix, etc.). I only knew one person with a Master’s in cyber security and he got $77.5k (I think he was considered a tier 1 city). So I’d expect to be between $75k-$80k. Possibly higher if people this year start at a little more.
Also I should mention that your masters doesn't matter when considering salary, sorry.
The recruiter probably lied, sorry.
70-85
I started in 2018 in Cyber NYC and got $72,500 with $5000 signing
75k + 10k
72.5 - 83
DC it’s 85, I would assume NYC around same. Maybe 99?
Maybe 90** sorry
If you join an advisory cyber practice, likely $71.5k - $75k with a $10k signing bonus. Those are the numbers I saw with our new hires last year.
It's as much as they are willing to pay you based on how much they want you for the role you are applying for.
I would say also depends on prior yrs of work experience and level. I came in as SC and started at 115K in NYC
Thank you everyone for your input. I have my final interview with a partner this week. I have yet to be asked my what my salary expectations are by a manager or the recruiter. Wish me luck!
I got the job! I accepted the offer. $77k with $10k bonus.
I got hired in NYC oct 2018 🙃
I should specify even further and say that this is for a US consultant position based in NYC.
Then you probably will come in as an experienced hire. However, if you have less than 2 years. I wouldn’t expect more than 80-90k unless you have some cyber certs
