Are there resources available for H1b holders thinking to invest? Less than 1year into career and have 10k sitting not sure what to do with it... I’m still unsure if I’ll be in the states long term..

What’s the best strategy to grow my money if I’m not thinking of physically staying in the states, but am okay with letting my money stay in the bank till retirement if need be, IRA? how do I go about setting it up, do I need to select the mutual funds etc for it... I’m maxing my 401k at my employer as well. I am wondering if it would be wise to invest in stocks if I’m international too.

I’d like some financial input. I have $56k in a high yield savings account. Other than my checking acct (3-4k) and Roth/401k (which goes untouched) it’s basically all the money I have. (Zero debt/loans, no house/car) Should I be doing something else with part of the money? I know nothing about stocks or investing. Any thoughts?

Hi there,

I’m an immigrant in the US and learning to navigate all the different retirement and investment accounts.

I have an HSA through work and I’m always seeing people talk about maxing it out which i get but then there are discussions about investments through it? I’m very confused by how this works. I thought this was just an account to assist with health expenses?

Anyone have a resource that explains how this works in dummy terms? Lol

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?

I'm a noob with bonds, can someone break down ibonds for me in idiot proof language?

Per what I'm reading the interest rate is 9.62% if I buy through Oct 2022. It's a 30 year investment, but I can withdraw after 5 years without 3 month penalty.

Questions:
(1) Is the interest rate fixed or variable over the term of the bond?
(2) Assuming 9.62% is annual return but definitely want to confirm 🤣
(3) Do most people actually keep it in 30 years? I'm looking at 5 years for now and re-assess
