Does Novartis really restructure every 2-3 years? If so, how deep do these restructurings go and how do people get re-hired for different roles? Any perspectives from the inside would be helpful to understand.

My department did not truly "restructure" for 5 years. However, there were individuals transitioned out every 2-3 years. My mgr actually said " I will fire your @#$%, but she needed to wait for the next round of cuts. Sure enough there was a round a lay-offs to the month when she said it would happen".

My department was a Dunning-Kruger case study where failure was rewarded with longevity.

Oh man, I’m sorry your manager was that terrible..
curious which dept that was if you are ok messaging me / where you ended up. Are you still at Novartis?

Most companies do some form of restructuring every ~2-3 years on the commercial side for lifecycle mgmt of their products. It’s also common to see some functions centralized / decentralized or in / outsourced as new leadership tries make their mark on their BU / function.

I won’t speak regarding Novartis’s particulars, but they have / had some large market events.

EVERY large pharma restructures every 2-3 years!

Yes. And they go all the way down. But at the upper levels, they do try to move people around within the company if there are roles available rather than just cut them loose. There are internal job boards and you can set up your preferences on your intranet profile so you get pinged when a suitable role comes online.

Novartis leads the pharma world in layoffs during the last 3 years. In addition, the company once had three consecutive Corporate Integrity Agreements and holds the record for longest continuous period under CIAs. Better today, but politics abound. Use caution.

I had 3 managers in 18 months, and the level above them cycled through 3 SVP's as head of our division as well. My role was put into question during my first month, then again after 6 months and then eventually merged into another one after 22 months. There comes a point after serial restructuring when one wonders if these companies and the management consultants who guide them - actually know what they are doing or not. I think that they are currently playing Russian roulette with roles and thus people's careers. Imagine what that does to the culture - which is full of fear, mistrust and duplicity. Never have I worked somewhere where I was paid as well and yet treated so poorly.

Are these restructurings that are division wide or mostly reductions in force (or both)?
Any insights on what % of people are impacted in each restructuring?
Feel a bit nervous as a new person, whether those will affect newcomers more than the lifers

Hello! I’d like to share an experience and hopefully receive guidance.

I spent two years as an executive, and while I was providing what I believe was impactful work, and receiving praises across the board, I got fired from one day to the other without any explanation.

After a few weeks, some managers (who were under me) shared that there had been a while campaign raised against me for a couple of months by others VPs and shareholders. 1/2

Has anyone had any experience with Water Street Partners for lateral recruiting? Reached out to me cold with a few ideas and I’ve had two follow up emails and a call with an MD at reputable banks, but it all seems very sketchy. For instance an “HR Specialist” reached out to me to set up a call, but when I look her up on LinkedIn she’s a IB VP. The MD I spoke to named a few other people he was going to have reach out, but haven’t heard from either of them. Just doesn’t feel like a normal process
