Ugh that's the worst. Definitely hoard it IMO. Staycations are nice, but when your heart is set on a getaway, it's going to feel underwhelming by comparison. Also, get on your husband's case when you do get the make up trip planned. I hate to admit it, but I am this type of partner when it comes to planning and I'm sure we'd have run into similar issues if my girlfriend wasn't aware of it and didn't follow up with me incessantly until I confirm I've submitted the requests and gotten all my ducks in a row.
He is on a short leash for sure! I was so looking forward to feet in the sand, butt on the beach and a beer in my hand! This will happen - I made it a goal for 2026.
I told my boss 6 months ago I was needing time off a month later. She said she would check on it to make sure it was possible. I said either way I won't be here and I will deal with the consequences and she said don't worry about it she'd make sure it's approved 🤷. I'm getting to an age where I definitely not worrying about job over work anymore though.
Yeah it would be difficult if I lost my job but my wife did last year and we would navigate through it so we have flexibility I guess. I worked in emergency service business before this career and after I found out that working a normal schedule allowed more quality time I figured I will give my 40 and thats it and use my PTO for the most part as I want and if it doesn't fit I will just move on.
Sorry to hear that, that's an awful development. Things like that can happen in the corporate world, the best laid plans may go astray. If you can reschedule your time off for later in the year that might be the best approach.
It's a rough setback, but we're already planning!
