Dumb question: what does human capital consulting do? Examples of types of projects. Thanks. I don’t think they are involved in layoffs… that feels more like a consequence of Strategy project (I could be wrong). Does it involve in paying employees less?

I hate to be that guy but….

Human capital consultants—often called HR or talent consultants—help organizations manage, develop, and optimize their workforce. Their goal is to align people strategies with business goals so companies perform better.

Here’s what they typically do:

1. Talent Strategy & Workforce Planning

They help companies figure out:
What skills they need now and in the future
How many employees they should hire
How to structure teams efficiently

2. Recruitment & Hiring

They may design or improve hiring processes by:
Creating job descriptions
Advising on interview strategies
Implementing better candidate screening systems

3. Employee Development & Training

They build programs to improve employee performance, such as:
Leadership development
Skills training
Career path planning

4. Compensation & Benefits

They analyze and design pay structures:
Salary benchmarking
Bonus and incentive plans
Benefits packages (health, retirement, etc.)

5. Organizational Design

They help restructure companies to work more effectively:
Redefining roles and responsibilities
Improving reporting structures
Supporting mergers or reorganizations

6. Change Management

When companies go through major changes (like new technology or layoffs), consultants:
Help communicate changes to employees
Reduce resistance and disruption
Support smooth transitions

7. HR Technology & Analytics

They often implement tools and use data to improve HR decisions:
HR software systems
Employee performance tracking
Workforce analytics

In simple terms:
Human capital consultants help companies get the most out of their people—hiring the right talent, developing them, and creating systems where employees can perform at their best.

I feel like they have the chillest roles on any large implementation but I hear at least at Deloitte they get paid higher than other OPs and aligned to strategy pay bands. Is that true

After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Add a terrible health situation in my family and it seems there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Ugh. 😞

I think I've failed twice in answering these correctly in my interviews
This is for a Visual designer's position
1. What was the breakpoint for design
2. Did you design the components and design system?
3. How was your handoff to developers (I've never one that)
4. Wht was the most challenging part of this project.
5. What is something you would re-design if you were to go back.

Are there any books or other resources that mid levels/seniors/counsel/partners on here have found helpful for the project management / managing junior attorney aspects of your job?

I am not finding a lot of stuff written for lawyers specifically , but there is a lot directed at “managers” in business generally that I imagine could be applicable.

So, after a year of not so quietly making it known that I wanted to make the transition from the tech side to the business side I have officially been extended an offer to take on a Project Manager internally (coming from a software configurer). The client I have been assigned to has many of our products, however, the specific project I have been assigned to is a problem child and has damaged the companies relationship with the client. Any advice for a new, young PM being shoved into a problem?

A quick note about what I’ve experienced, in my decade long career, is the real advantage of MBB or FAANG - it gives you a shot at stretch roles that are outside your expertise. Not all the time or even most of the time compared to better candidates with specific experience for the role but gives you this wildcard shot at a vast array of opportunities.
