Research shows any salary gains above ~$80k have a very minor effect on your happiness, especially relative to the effort required. Quit now, be happy, get a hobby at home and spend more time with the people you care about.
@OP - consulting is a pyramid model and less linear. Not all C’s make Manager, and not all M’s make SM, etc etc. in fact, typical % of SMs who make partner are in the 5%-20%. Long story short, you have a LONG road ahead that’s not guaranteed. If you’re tempted by 135k, get out now because it gets harder. I still have projects where I work nights/weekends, and clients only get tougher to deal with.
Dude partner is not a guaranteed and million a year is also not average.
^bingo. That's the other thing about that million dollar carrot they're dangling in your face...not everyone who stays can/will get it. People seem to forget that...
At Deloitte only senior partners are making $1m+ and that level takes years to attain, its certainly not in your late 30s. The pay is largely in the pension, not the annual comp.... marathon model
The fact that you think D partners make $1m/yr by early 40s shows you know nothing about what it takes to get there...
You only get one 20’s. Live it. If you’re already in your 30’s and still that far from partner then quit
Where do you think you should be in your 30s for partner track
Since you applied for the Salesforce job, clearly there is something driving you away from your current job. So the best course would be to follow through with this. There are no guarantees on becoming a partner and many different ways to become rich.
What makes you think you’re guaranteed to make partner?
Partner is far from guaranteed and you’re not making $1M until you’re quite a few years in. I’m an SM4 with great numbers, top ratings, and still not confident I’ll make it.
@DD1 Don't be a douche. OP already said they're an SC. 135k is probably ~25k bump for a 1st year non-MBA SC
Take local offer
Pure freedom is being your own boss, I'd focus on that and the money will come
A1 there was actually research that proved that was true to a point. The realm of “f you money” is definitely happier but that’s the type of money working class can only dream of 😭
What level are you now?
DD2 no guarantee that I'd be able to make Partner, but knowing that there's a clearly defined career path with levels, compensation, and expectations defined at each level is what I fear I'd miss if I left Consulting
OP, DD1 assumed you are a BTA or a C based on the salary range you are targeting at SF. Not based on your fictions million dollar targets.
Hard to answer what you should do or talk you in or out of without understanding what your current compensation is. What does an SC at DD make? $90K? $100K? 5 years seems like a lot of time to only be a SC for somebody who is confident they are on the Partner track.
Titles are different at every firm young Padawan. Senior consultant at Deloitte is equivalent to a managing consultant or band 8 at IBM.
PWC EY and KPMG call it senior associate. Usually 3 years at this level before manager.
Some other specialized firms will only hire you if you have consulting experience and start you at an associate but will pay you more than big4 manager level. I work at one of these Botiques. It's all BS.
Now OP got me wondering, I am 32 but not getting any younger. My numbers this year are suffering, hmmm. Should probably leave the office and go home, it’s almost 10 pm.
What role at SF
