I’ve been married for a while now (5+ years) but feeling completely checked out. My wife has zero conflict resolution skills and can’t control her anxiety, so we constantly bicker if I ever do anything that offends her, and she wants to spend all her time talking about the constantly changing projects she will never start. I’m in this business to cure my inferiority complex. Making lots of money, working with fortune 500 clients and walking the streets of NYC with a suit, tie and briefcase makes me feel important and worthy.

I often wish I could be like my law school friends who either moved to small towns or have public sector or non profit jobs, wear sweaters and jeans to work and make far less than me, but are happy with their lives, feel a sense of meaning with their work and don’t need external validation.

There’s no worst feeling that to be rejected by someone you love. I gave my heart and time to someone I thought felt the same towards me for more than a year. They decided to end the relationship cause they didn’t feel the same, and even though I appreciate the honesty, it hurts a lot!

How have you combated your fear of rejection? I fixate on such small things as when my friends, for example, reject plans I have made. This definitely makes me more averse to putting myself out there and makes me ruminate on past perceived failures, which are clearly not good for personal growth

My friend just got out of a relationship and hooked up with his ex's best friend a week later. They're now dating and seeing each other everyday.
I couldn't help but feel like this wasn't an appropriate thing to do for both parties. He also revealed that he cheated on his past exes.

Gift giving help: every year around this time my husband brings up his Jan bday and basically demands I spend a lot of $ on him. I find this stressful. One of my best friends growing up just passed away. We lost contact with each other a year or two after graduating high school and I recently came to learn he was was battling cancer the past 5 years and ultimately succumbed to the illness. He hid it well from everyone and led a very private life during it all. To make matters worse, he had just turned 25. Seeing pictures of the condition he was in towards the end of his fight broke my heart. I wish I had known so I could’ve been there for him.

Question for those who are married or about to be : how did you know he/she was the one? And how long did it take you to realize it?

I love my wife being a stay at home wife even without kids. She seems so much less stressed, does things she enjoys (like cleaning, laundry ((yes I don’t know why she likes this stuff), yoga etc). I financially support her and I feel more like a man.
