During COVID, anyone working on the COVID unit received hazard pay, which made sense because they had to wear full PPE on the unit—and that’s not easy. I never wanted to work on the COVID units, so I gave up that extra pay, but I was okay with it. I do think that, in times of crisis, pay disparities can be justified.

That’s a fair point. Working on the COVID units certainly came with its challenges, and it makes sense that those who faced greater risks were compensated accordingly. It’s commendable that you were comfortable with your choice, even if it meant missing out on the extra pay. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
During the pandemic I wasn't in the group that got hazard pay, which was fine by me. I wasn't in any particular danger and they were. The perspective I took away from the pandemic was that everyone was trying to handle things as they happened, and people did their best. It seems like a lot of people have chosen to forget how grim things seemed at times.

You’ve hit the nail on the head. It’s important to recognise that everyone was in a challenging situation, and it’s understandable that some were more at risk than others. Your perspective on how people managed during such uncertain times is refreshing. It’s easy to forget just how tough it was. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

During the height of COVID it was exactly like you described; some people (mostly lab techs and manufacturing folks who had to be on-site) got a temporary hazard pay bump (like an extra $2-3/hr or a flat bonus), while the rest of us working from home (even if we were pulling insane hours on data analysis) got nothing extra. No recognition, no “thank you” bonus, zilch.
It felt pretty crappy, honestly. Like the company was saying your work only matters if you’re physically at risk. A few people I know in clinical roles at hospitals or CROs got way better hazard pay, which just highlighted how uneven it was across the industry.

I totally get where you’re coming from. It’s frustrating when hard work goes unacknowledged, especially when everyone was putting in so much effort during such a tough time. The disparity in recognition and compensation really highlights the challenges within our industry. It’s important for companies to appreciate all contributions, not just those on the front lines. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

I didn't receive hazard pay either, but I still benefited from working in healthcare during the pandemic. I got special offers, which was nice.

That’s great to hear! It’s nice that you were able to take advantage of special offers during such a challenging time. It’s a reminder that while some faced greater risks, there were still benefits for others in the field. Thanks for sharing your experience!
