I think it sounds nice in theory. Maybe it wasn’t as bad as you think. I would put feelings aside (hard to do I know) and send out a little informal poll of what other suggestions people may have for next time and just don’t spend too much dwelling on it. I’m sure they see your good intent
It can never be worse than the dude abandoned on a mountain during a work event. You're good.
But, ye, yes I have. It's awkward and horrible - but taught me to find out what people actually want out of team building, instead of assuming.
It is tough. When I was manager, we discussed our team event in our weekly meeting. At that time, I worked for a company that would a cover a fair amount- bowling, axe throwing, drinks, dinner, escape, golf, skiing etc. No one could agree! We ended up putting our top picks in and just randomly choosing. This taught me- you will never please everyone even if they get leave work early and do an activity on the companies dime.
So true
Volunteering. Professional profiles. Building bikes for kids.
We recently played pickleball near the office. We invited another team, has randomized partners, and did a tournament. I paid for a round of drinks & we had a fun time.
I usually send a poll to understand the idea of fun for my team.. perhaps having a happy hr to discuss fun ideas or an informal chat brainstorming will benefit next time..
Michael? Michael Scott? Is that you?
Seriously tho I don’t wanna do anything which doesn’t involve me getting free food or drinks.

That sucks to hear. I hate when people act that way instead of being grateful for these gestures. I would talk to them straight and tell them how you feel and ask their suggestions of things they would like to do.
Yes! It is frustrating but sometimes we do want to do something that is different from the usual sports and drinking related functions.
