As a freelancer you’re often swooping in to do the jobs fulltimers either don’t want to or can’t do - and getting paid a premium for it.
So yes, you should be listing your awards and accomplishments on your LinkedIn or website, but not sure if that will really make a difference. What you’re describing might just be the nature of FL vs FT. But a couple pieces of advice:
One thing you could try is making self-initiated projects to scratch that itch of getting something creatively fulfilling produced. Or trying to find a local nonprofit or small business that needs creative help.
Also, make sure your portfolio reflects the type of work you want to do, since your past experience is especially important as a freelancer. You’re often hired because you’re someone they *know* can solve their problem without a lot of hand holding.
This was SO helpful. Thank you so much! It is (to a financial extent) very much in my hands if I want to create something exciting. I just do it myself, and bring in others who it excites as well. Also love the idea of reaching out to small businesses.
Sounds like you’re a creative.. you’re feeling/thinking like a creative. You seem to want to feed that creativity.
Think like a business. Sometimes business is boring..and not sexy. But it’s lucrative. Remind yourself.. you’re a business.
I echo the comment that if you want to be called in for creative opportunities, there’s just a lot less of that in total and people in house want those gigs. But they do occur and your book needs to show you will crack them.
