Sounds about right for 2 years experience.
I made $22K at my first job and $32k at my second job. Granted NYC was a bit more affordable 14 years ago but I was still broke.
It’s an unfortunate reality of this industry. There is money to be made but you need to push through to get it.
Clients don’t want to pay a lot for social media or marketing. Hard to pay people a lot when clients don’t value it on the same level as they do other things. Sorry guys.
Started as an SMM at 28K for my first job 6 years ago. Hustled and turned myself in to a strategist with digital, brand, and social experience. I’m at 160 now. Good luck - you can do it.
Part of the problem is that digital and social are often “sold” as the low-cost alternative to traditional. “Why spend a million on a tv spot when we can do a social post or tweet for almost nothing!" The clients buy off on this in hopes of greater ROI, but the budgets are much smaller, and thus, lower salaries.
I started as a social media manager and I made 28k. My next job I jumped up to about 48 (2yr exp) doing SMM and strategy Third job I was in the mid 50s / low 60s. You’re not alone!
Pretty standard for 2 years. The pay bumps really start coming in the 3-6 year area
My wife went from $75k to $102k this year. That was after 10 yrs in social.
I work for a social media agency and the salaries on here seem outrageous.
Must be nice. I’m an SMM at 40k
This shit really depresses me as a designer lmfao
I’d say for 2 years experience you’re on good money
I think a lot of people on here are bullshit artists. I went into my first agency CM job making $50k and had about 2 yrs of exp at the time. 2.5 yrs later (one agency jump) I’m making $75k
That seems a bit low for the title and city, but if we’re taking in consideration your years of experience, I think you’re doing well. Are you in house, or at an agency?
It’s just not a very valuable job so you should try to transition out of it
I was in a social media manager role with 2 years experience and made $36K. I was probably underpaid and it was awhile ago, but yeahhhh it’s rough.
Managing social media creates a marginal amount of value and is thus compensated commensurately. Where does the job lead to? Social media strategist? Social media creative? Content strategist? In any case, the “social media” is just a subset of a larger, more fundamental skill. If you develop the fundamental skill, your earning potential will rise.
