“Reflecting on and adopting the use of micro-affirmations would be a positive strategy to prevent microaggressions. Micro-affirmations are small acts that foster inclusion, listening, comfort and support for people who may feel isolated or invisible in their environment. Focus on action, not avoidance – create new good behaviours.”

We are professionals who have lives outside of school. Be a professional and put in the time to give your district the time to get the sub for you. Make sure you have clear sub plans and everything printed, laid out, and ready for when you are gone.
I submitted my request for personal days in August for an event in February. I also have asked my sub for this event before, and I put it in at that time to make it easier for the school.
We are not allowed to take the day before or the day after. Since I will be flying back from St. Martin at midnight the day before we return to work, I have already informed my administrators in case we don't get back in time (flight delays, weather, etc.) The assistant principal told me not to use my personal leave because if I did it would be leave without pay. She told me to call in sick.
So you'd be missing 2 weeks including the holidays? Or two weeks after the holidays? I'm not even allowed to take that kind of time off without losing my job so I wouldn't know what to tell you!
We are close for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and for New Years. We were planning to go on January 2nd which is a Friday and we won’t be back until Sunday which is January 4th.
Ditto to MS Math. That's a major contract violation here.
Is there a downside or drawback to waiting a few days to put the request in? Like are you at risk for somebody else requesting it off and you’re requesting getting denied or do you have to request off a certain amount of time before your request date? If the answer is yes to either one of these go ahead and request it off. If you request off process is a little more fluid than I would give it a few days.
People be staying stuff that I already had so many off days. I take off if is a personal day, doctors appointments, etc. We are planning to go all the way to New York where my other family lives.
The way I'm understanding this is that you are scheduled to go back to work on Friday, January 2nd, but you have a family trip scheduled until January 4th, so the only day you will actually miss is Friday January 2nd.
However, you also said that people are telling you that you've already missed too much time. You're wondering if it would be better to call off now, two weeks early or call in the day of, when you're in New York, correct?
At this point, the problem isn't WHEN you let them know, its THAT you're taking January 2nd off and basically extending your break until Monday, January 5th.
It's not like other people aren't going to do exactly the same thing, but if you're already on thin ice about your absenteeism, how you notify them of your absence won't make a bit of difference; the fact that you're gone at all will be a problem.
We only get off for Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Day. We are planning to leave on January 2nd, 2026 which is a Friday but driving at night to the location which will take up to 4 hours.
