I want to know from HR or senior management that do you offer less to female candidate provided she has same skills as a male candidate?
Does in IT industry gender doesn't impact compensation?

Was at an event recently. Seems like advertising really only cares about diversity as it applies to white women. I think this industry wants to stay white.

Anyone here ever witness someone make a full career transition into being a DEI consultant, strategist, Manager or Chief Diversity Officer? If not witnessed anyone, maybe done it yourself? I want to fully transition into the DEI space but don’t know where to start… any advice on certificates or career pathways would help!

Any WIT in Boston? I'm interviewing for a really exciting opportunity in downtown and would be relocating there after it's safe. Would love to hear about any groups or resources!

Bonus points for intersectionality and welcoming of LGBT individuals (I'm a gender non-conforming butch lesbian). Bonus bonus points for a group that isn't all white.

Also where should I be looking to live? I heard Boston has a lot of racism issues and is very segregated...

Hey fellow fishies! There have been some questions lately about men lurking in this bowl. I’ve reached out to Fishbowl and a rep reassured me that only users who identify as women are allowed access to this bowl. If any men have misrepresented their gender in order to gain access, please flag the user and/or reach out to a bowl leader or Fishbowl support asap! Definitely want to make sure this space remains safe and private so we can continue to share freely 🙏

What are some racial/gender/age based micro aggressions you’ve experienced in the workplace?

As a leader in cyber, one of my aspirations is to increase the diversity of any organization that I am a part of.

For example…When I was in Big4, I referred several diverse candidates who are thriving & now, at McKinsey & Company, I set a personal goal to refer 1 diverse candidate, especially in (but not necessarily exclusive to) cyber/tech/IT, for every month of my tenure.

Doing a poll here to see the gender split in this bowl. can you lease ‘like’ one of the options below ? (It’s more efficient than each of us typing a separately response)

Hello fishes, Do you have suggestions on Diversity & Inclusion activities that can be done virtually with a group? I found few ideas in google but would love to hear about any experiences and suggestions.

How many Firm (non-billable hours) a year do you commit, where do most of them go, and what’s your gender?

Thanks for making this bowl all gender inclusive. The other bowl simply was outdated and lacked any kind of diversity whatsoever at all.

Hey, I graduated UChicago and took a finance analyst position. However, I am looking to switch into management consulting because of a couple factors I have realized matter more to me than I realized: 1. Team and Collaborative problem-solving, 2. Diversity of companies and industries I am exposed to because of entrepreneurial hopes in the future.

Would appreciate any likes I could dm or any comments with firms I should look into that could be a good fit and hire off-cycle or for January 2023!

I am looking for Job referrals for social impact organizations and international development sector . Looking to Provide research, advisory and consulting expertise

I am an international development professional and consultant passionate about increasing access to quality public health globally. I have extensive experience in research, project management and consulting in the Southern Africa non-profit sector with expertise in SHRH, Gender Policy and Violence Against Women.

I had an interview and the recruiter (White F) could not stop talking about DEI and POC % hires. It’s great yes but I didn’t even mention or ask about it yet. Barely had time to talk about myself. I was slightly uncomfortable. She made me feel like a diversity hire.

Does WE matter more or test scores? Like for those who work in non mbb consulting vs other analyst roles where there’s much more time to study. Have friends who don’t really have much work and spent a lot of time studying to get good scores meanwhile I don’t have much time to study. Can’t decide if I should leave T2 consulting to focus on test score

I’m with an employer for 6 years now (with total 16 years of experience).
Current environment is great, great team, opportunities for growth within the company is good.

Found an offer with 40% hike outside.
My employer don’t want me to leave and ready to give up-to 30% hike.

One thing I heard them saying is , no one in the group makes what you will make after this 30% rise.

After hearing that I’m thinking, will it back fire me somehow if I continue to stay?

Happy Friday fishies. Dropping some needed wisdom. Being firm, taking control, and not allowing people to treat you poorly is setting boundaries. Don’t accept negative actions by others.

Happy Holidays to everyone! Make sure you take time to unplug and recharge. Even a 10 min nap is rest. It’s a crazy time of year.

Happy Friday!! A gentle reminder rest is productive and you are your biggest investment. If others can’t see your value then it’s time to leave them behind.

Wednesday morning vibes. How are we feeling today fishies? Any stories we liked to share about our experiences?

Found out today my toxic manager bad mouthed me to an HR rep in a different division. This correlated with his bad management and abusive behavior. Luckily the new manager I’ll soon be working with dismissed it. Her words of wisdom “reflect on what you could have done differently, you can only control your actions”. How does that resonate for you? Have you had similar experiences?

Good morning Fishies!! Question of the day. What’s an experience you’ve had dealing with micro-aggressions? How did you deal with it? Do you feel like you reclaimed your power and confidence?

Welcome to a community dedicated to supporting those who deal with or wish to learn more about micro-aggressions. Did you know that 72% of folks are bullied by their managers? 36% of folks end up quitting their job because of bullying.

My hands are shaking!! I just got off a call with my toxic manager who is clearly not happy I am being poached for another division. I tried to hold firm as he attempted to 20 question me, who was it, who wants me, what division, how did they find out about me? And of course the gaslighting of “why didn’t you come to me I could have helped or made introductions”. Clearly everything is about him. How have you handled such situations? What could I have done better with my abusive manager?

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.

Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??
