There is definitely some very good food in Durham - you are not wrong!
In Raleigh, we like Brewery Bhavana, Saint Jacques, Poole’s Diner, Salt & Lime, David’s Dumplings, Cafe Tiramisú, Tazza (different than Taza), both Sitti and Gravy, and Sassool / Neomonde. And I love Oro - that’s usually my birthday spot.
Can vouch for Brewery Bhavana! Love that place!!
Perry’s Steakhouse
It’s great. One of the best steak restaurants hands down.
Vidrio for ambiance definitely. I’ve been to most restaurants on Raleigh’s “best” list and nothing stands out to me
I really like St. Roch in dtr.
But I agree Durham is the flavor capital of NC. So much good food there
Agree on Durham having great spots, but Stanbury rivals any of them.
Honestly I wasn't that impressed by Stanbury. It was okay. Vin Rouge and Mothers and Son in Durham are sooooo good
Recently moved to Raleigh. Been disappointed with the food so will have to give Durham a try. We do like salt and lime though.
Also really like Crawford and Sons and recently went back to Death & Taxes. Small market though and tends to be the same chefs/groups. Raleigh & Durham have a good vibe just different from larger cities. I like that places tend to be laid back with decent quality.
Having lived in Houston and Dallas previously it’s the variety that’s really lacking. Obviously those are much bigger cities so I’d expect more options, but seems to be mostly American food in Raleigh. No thai, viet, etc.
Our old au pair is Thai, and Thai House was the only place she would eat Thai. That was a while ago, but we still eat there regularly. The woman who owns it is an amazing personality.
Don’t get me wrong, it isn’t Lotus of Siam in Vegas, which is out of this world, but it’s good.
Mulino has a great ambience and prices aren’t terrible, service is really good
For me its crawford and sons.
Love Bida Manda and Mofu Dumpling Shoppe; further out (i.e. Cary) both Bosphorous and Himalayan Nepali Cuisine is awesome
Durhams best. Not knocking Raleigh, def some tasty places like Jolie and Crawford and son, but Durham is where the details really shine.
